Dortmund announce record profits

Borussia Dortmund have announced club record-breaking revenue and profits in the past six months.

From July 1 to December 31, 2011, the defending Bundesliga champions earned 101.4 million euros in revenue, and recorded 16.7m euros profit before tax.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke hailed his team s financial success and asserted that the figures justify the summer signing of Marco Reus, who in January confirmed his 17.5m-euro move to the club.

BVB (Dortmund) have progressed economically and sportingly in recent years, he said according to the club s official website.

Given the current figures it is reasonable to say that the transfer of Marco Reus does not pose any financial risk for Borussia Dortmund.

According to Deloitte s recently published Football Money League report, Dortmund earned 138.5m euros over the course of the 2010-11 season, a 32 per cent increase from 2009-10, when the club pulled in 105.2m euros.

On their current pace, Dortmund will earn 202.8m euros in 2011-12, a figure only exceeded by nine clubs in the Deloitte publication.
