´I don´t want to wait´, says Lineker on England lifting a major trophy

Gary Lineker is certain England will win a major tournament soon, but does not want to wait any longer than their Euro 2024 final against Spain on Sunday.

England face Spain in Berlin with a chance to end an excruciating 58-year wait for an international honour, something Lineker failed to halt during his own playing career.

Lineker scored 48 goals in 80 appearances for the Three Lions, becoming the first English player to win the Golden Boot at a World Cup in 1986.

The former striker suffered his fair share of heartache on the international stage, with Diego Maradona s Hand of God goal knocking England out of that World Cup.

Lineker and England would reach the semi-finals four years later at Italia 90, but would fall to defeat to West Germany in a pen…

Man City star Sterling says Premier League is higher priority than Champions League

Raheem Sterling says he was pleased to see Liverpool win the Champions League but insists Manchester City s priority remains the Premier League.

England international Sterling left Liverpool in acrimonious circumstances in 2015.

The Anfield club have finished behind City in each of the subsequent four seasons but beat Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid last month to secure their sixth European crown.

I was really happy for them, happy for some of the players I know to lift the Champions League, Sterling told the Manchester Evening News.

The 24-year-old, who has flourished under manager Pep Guardiola, added: The Champions League is massive for us as a club but our most important thing is winning the Premier League.

For me, what we did last season – ever…

Guardiola expects Pellegrini to get ´reception he deserves´ on Etihad return

Pep Guardiola expects former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini to receive a warm welcome from the home fans on his return to the Etihad Stadium.

Pellegrini spent three years in charge of City after arriving in June 2013, winning the Premier League as well as the EFL Cup in his debut season before finishing second in the table behind Chelsea the following year.

However, the Chilean announced his impending departure midway through the 2015-16 campaign, shortly before the club confirmed the appointment of Guardiola as his successor.

Having returned to work in England after a spell in the Chinese Super League, Pellegrini will be back on familiar territory for the first time since taking charge at West Ham, who visit his old employers on Wednesday.

Watford 1 West Brom 0: Deeney drives dagger into under-fire Pardew

West Brom slipped deeper into relegation peril after Troy Deeney struck late to secure Watford a 1-0 win at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

The Hornets skipper marked his 300th league appearance for the club with a well-taken finish in the 77th minute that proved the difference in a tight affair.

In addition to securing his side back-to-back league wins, Deeney s strike sent West Brom to a fifth successive Premier League defeat that will only heighten the pressure on the under-fire Alan Pardew, who was reportedly set to be sacked if he failed to claim three points.

The Baggies boss had been forced to smooth over a reported dressing room row with Chris Brunt in the lead-up and appeared set to at least claim a steadying, if uninspiring, point.
